Pediatric Dentistry
When your child first visits the dentist, it can be an anxiety-provoking experiencing. Some children are shy. Some parents have anxiety about the dentist and may inadvertently share that with their children. We want your experience to be comforting and reassuring! From the words and language that we use, to our tone of voice, to the way that we have designed our office, we do our best to make sure your child's and your first visit is as enjoyable as possible!
When should my child visit the dentist?
It's important for children to visit a dentist six months after their first tooth erupts or by the time the child turns one year of age. This is the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Caring for Your Child's New Teeth
It can take a few years (from the age of about six months until about three years) for all of your child's baby (or primary) teeth to fully erupt. During that time, your child's gums may feel tender. The use of a cool cloth or children's pain medication can help during time of eruption of teeth. Help your child develop healthy hygiene habits for their new teeth by making brushing fun and entertaining. Help them remember to brush after eating and before bed. We recommend that parents be actively involved in your child's oral hygiene practices until age 8 or 9!
Sugary foods and drinks can lead to the production of harmful acid and bacteria. Limit your child's sugar intake!
Prevent Cavities and Have Checkups Regularly!
As parents are actively involved in their child's oral hygiene through assistance of brushing and flossing, they are able to look at their child's teeth on a daily basis. In conjunction, it is important to schedule regular appointments with your dentist. Should you have concerns or see signs of decay, contact us immediately.
